Our Story

From a single desk in Cape Town to a cross-continental trade bridge

ThaiRus was founded to close the gap between South African businesses and the fast-growing markets of Southeast Asia and Eurasia. Every milestone reflects a deliberate choice to build trust, open routes, and deliver measurable results for our partners.

2016

First trade mission to Bangkok

Christo George led a small delegation of Western Cape exporters to meet Thai buyers in the food processing and logistics sectors. The mission secured three distribution agreements and revealed the demand for African agricultural goods in ASEAN markets.

2018

Opened Johannesburg liaison office

With growing demand from mining and manufacturing clients, we established a permanent base in Sandton. The office now coordinates customs clearance, warehousing, and last-mile delivery for over 40 regular clients across South Africa and Thailand.

2020

Launched Eurasian corridor pilot

Despite global disruptions, ThaiRus piloted a multimodal route from Durban to Almaty via Colombo and Bandar Abbas. The project proved that South African machinery and chemicals could reach Central Asian buyers at competitive transit times.

2022

Cultural intelligence training becomes core service

After repeated requests from clients who struggled with negotiation styles and business etiquette, we formalised a cross-cultural advisory programme. Zanele Mashaba now leads workshops that have trained over 200 executives from Johannesburg to Jakarta.

2024

Advised on R120m trade deal between SA and Vietnam

Our team facilitated a landmark agreement linking a KwaZulu-Natal citrus cooperative with a Hanoi-based distributor. The deal required navigating phytosanitary standards, payment guarantees, and language barriers — all handled end-to-end by ThaiRus.

Your Bridge to Cross-Continental Trade

ThaiRus connects South African businesses with markets in Southeast Asia and Eurasia. We provide cross-cultural consulting and trade facilitation that turns geographic distance into commercial opportunity.

We work with mid-sized exporters, logistics managers, and trade development agencies who need more than a generic service provider. Our team understands the regulatory frameworks, cultural protocols, and logistical realities of moving goods between South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Eurasian corridor. Our approach is grounded in direct experience. We have facilitated trade agreements, resolved customs bottlenecks, and helped companies adapt their communication style to build lasting partnerships. Every engagement starts with a clear assessment of your current position and the specific market you want to enter. We do not offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we map the route, identify the risks, and provide the local knowledge that makes cross-border deals viable. Whether you are exporting agricultural products to Bangkok or sourcing manufactured goods from Moscow, ThaiRus gives you the context and the contacts.

Why ThaiRus exists

We bridge the gap between South African businesses and the markets of Southeast Asia and Eurasia. Our work is rooted in local knowledge, clear process, and a commitment to making cross-border trade feel less like a gamble and more like a planned route.

Ground in context, not theory

Every market has its own rhythm — customs clearance in Durban differs from documentation in Bangkok or customs bonding in Almaty. We don’t apply generic frameworks. Instead, we map the actual regulatory, logistical, and cultural landscape your business will move through.

Effect: Fewer surprises at the border, shorter lead times, and compliance that holds up under review.
Relationships built on transparency

We work with a small network of verified partners — freight forwarders, legal advisors, and local agents — who we know by name. When we recommend a route or a partner, you get the reasoning, the risks, and the alternatives. No hidden margins, no vague promises.

Effect: Trust that reduces friction in negotiations and keeps supply chains stable when conditions shift.
Outcomes measured in real trade

Our success is tied to yours: goods cleared, contracts signed, payments settled. We track lead times, cost variances, and compliance gaps per project. If a route underperforms, we adjust. If a regulation changes, we update your playbook within the same quarter.

Effect: Tangible improvements in speed-to-market and cost predictability for each corridor we open.
Long-term capability, not dependency

We don’t keep you reliant on our team. Every engagement includes a handover document, a local contact list, and a process map your internal team can run independently. Our goal is to make your trade operations self-sufficient within 12 to 18 months.

Effect: Your team owns the knowledge, and you scale without paying a middleman for every new transaction.
